If you’re a fan of the classic Caprese salad, then you will love this Caprese Pizza that features the same trio of fresh and flavorful ingredients. Perfect for a family dinner or a friendly gathering, this pizza adds an Italian flair to any mealtime. Here’s how to make it in about 5 minutes of active preparation time, with additional baking time.
Ingredients
- 1 pre-made pizza dough or your favorite homemade pizza dough
- 2 large ripe tomatoes, thinly sliced
- 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
- Fresh basil leaves, to taste
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- Salt to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to the highest setting, typically 475–500°F (245–260°C). If you have a pizza stone, put it in the oven now to heat up.
- On a floured surface, roll out your pizza dough to your desired thickness and transfer it to a pizza peel or an inverted baking sheet dusted with cornmeal or flour.
- Drizzle the olive oil over the surface of the dough. Use a pastry brush or the back of a spoon to spread it evenly.
- Arrange the tomato slices over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust. Season the tomatoes with salt and pepper to taste.
- Add the fresh mozzarella slices on top of the tomatoes.
- Transfer the pizza to the preheated pizza stone or place the baking sheet in the oven.
- Bake for about 10–15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and starting to brown.
- Once out of the oven, let the pizza rest for a minute, and then sprinkle fresh basil leaves over the top. The residual heat will gently wilt the basil.
- If desired, drizzle a balsamic glaze over the pizza for an extra flavor dimension.
- Use a pizza cutter or a sharp knife to slice and serve while warm.
This Caprese Pizza is a simple yet impressive dish that’s sure to be a hit at your table. The fresh flavors are perfect for any occasion and are especially delightful during the summer when tomatoes and basil are at their peak!
